Chaplain for Senior Living Community

The Chaplain is responsible for initiating, developing and deepening, and bringing to an appropriate close, a mutual and empathic relationship with the volunteers, resident, family and/or staff; the development of a genuine relationship is at the core of chaplaincy care and underpins, even enables, all the other dimensions of chaplaincy care to occur while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulatory and organizational standards. 

 

Chaplaincy Care for Staff and Organization 

  • Provides timely and sensitive chaplaincy care to the organization’s staff via individual and group interactions; provides supportive conversations with staff; provides timely collaborative peer support activities during and after critical incidents.
  • Provides chaplaincy care to the organization in ways consonant with the organization’s values and mission statement; assists in leading the community’s inspirational community observances.
  • Provides leadership in the professional practice setting of long-term care and the profession; serves in key roles in the work setting by participating in or leading committees, councils and/or administrative teams; liaises with community religious leaders.

 Supports and Leads Mission Advancement Initiatives Through Identification of Gratitude

  • Through daily work on the campus and throughout the community identifies opportunities to receive and recognize gratitude and identifies potential members of the 1884 Society, a donor and volunteer recognition program.
  • Upon identification of gratitude, the Chaplain will reach out to the Vice President of Mission Advancement via email with the details on the grateful resident and/or family member.
  • The Vice President of Mission Advancement and the Chaplain will coordinate a joint visit to discuss opportunities to express gratitude.
  • The Chaplain will include identification of gratitude statistics with the reporting mechanism.

 Maintaining Good Chaplaincy Care 

  • Seeks and creates opportunities to enhance the quality of chaplaincy care practice; participates in the community’s quality improvement program. 
  • Practices evidence-based care including ongoing evaluation of new practices and, when appropriate, contributes to or conducts research. 
  • Assumes responsibility for continued professional development, demonstrates a working and up-to-date knowledge of current theory and practices and integrates such information into his/her own practice. 
  • Personifies outstanding customer service to co-workers, clients and vendors by acting as a subject matter resource in a timely, considerate and friendly manner, always maintaining the “Golden Rule” approach; practices patience and kindness 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required Education:              Bachelor’s degree from 4-year college or university

Preferred Education:             Master’s degree of Divinity from accredited seminary; 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education from ACPE (Association of Clinical Pastoral Education) accredited facility 

Required Experience:            2 years’ experience as ordained pastoral care provider                                                                                                     

Preferred Experience:            Experience in a healthcare or geriatric setting

Required:                               30 hours continuing education every 2 years, 20 hours pastoral care, 10 hours gerontology; denominational endorsement from his/her community of faith, and be an active member of a local church congregation.  

Business travel is a requirement of position; proof of valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

If personal vehicle is used to transport self or others; proof of insurance of $100,000 single limit of liability
